Why the Screenshots album is not a retrieval system

Photos offers a useful foundation: browse by media type and search using dates, locations, categories, people, captions and visible text. The gap appears when you remember “the chair I wanted to compare” or “the idea for the trip,” but those words do not appear inside the image.
For screenshots you expect to reuse, preserve three layers: what the image contains, why you saved it and how you expect to retrieve it later.

Use five destinations instead of dozens of folders
Before choosing a topic, decide what should happen next. This five-destination system gives every screenshot a practical role and keeps purpose separate from subject.
A travel booking might be “retrieve” and “travel.” A hotel inspiration photo might be “reference” and “travel.” Keeping those layers separate makes the system easier to maintain.
How to process an existing screenshot backlog
A screenshot organizer should work with the archive you already have, not only with new captures. Use a repeatable sequence so cleanup does not become a one-day project.
Start with recent screenshots
Recent items are easier because you still remember their context. Review the past week or month, assign a destination, and remove obvious temporary material. This establishes the rule for future screenshots before you tackle older ones.
Work by situation, not random file order
Keep related sequences together. Several screenshots may represent one recipe, product comparison, conversation or multi-image post. Treating each frame as an isolated fact can remove the context you meant to save.

OCR, text search, categories and questions solve different problems
OCR turns words inside an image into text software can use. On supported devices, Apple's Live Text can select, copy, translate and look up text in photos. OCR helps retrieve a name, address, price or sentence, but it does not explain why you saved the image.
Imagine a screenshot of a restaurant menu. OCR may capture the venue and “tasting menu.” A travel category narrows the context. A retrieve destination records why it matters. Later, you can search the venue, filter travel items or ask which restaurant you saved for that city.
